Suzanne is a career Project Manager, Healthcare Information Management System Consultant and Implementation Specialist. Her career spans more than 20 years. She sees technology as an integral part of healthcare delivery today.
She first became interested in healthcare in the late 80’s while working for Margaret Tietz Center for Nursing Care in Jamaica, Queens, where she managed the Nursing office, helped introduce technology and handled the incident/accident reporting.
After working for a few years at the nursing home Suzanne moved on to a Computer Consulting firm where she implemented and trained Practice Management applications to multiple institutions throughout the country. Suzanne was one of the first implementers of technology to medical practices in New York. Suzanne had a passion for technical writing. She specialized in writing user-friendly documentation along with developing training plans for the practice’s she served.
In 1996, Suzanne took a position as the Director of Documentation and Training for a Materials Management software vendor. After the company was sold, she went back to another Nursing home as the Sr. Project Manager\Assistant Director of IT. It was at the Nursing home where she discovered that she had an interest in Medical Records.
While working as Sr. Project Manager/Project Director for a Human Services Software vendor, Suzanne worked on the development and deployment of an integrated Electronic Health Record for the Behavioral Health Division of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. During the UBHC project Suzanne also coordinated the development of a bi-directional HL7 interface to the behavioral health emergency call center capturing critical patient information, making it available when the patient presented for admission to a CPEP or Psychiatric center.
Also, during her tenure with Creative Socio-Medics Suzanne worked on an Application Unification Project team focused on upgrading and interfacing multiple disparate systems for a major Catholic Health System in New York City. As a Consultant Project Director, Suzanne managed high level IT projects for North Shore Health System, Misys Healthcare Software, and many small and medium sized practices in the New York area.
Suzanne recently transitioned from working for the New York State Quality Improvement Organization, IPRO as the Sr. EHR implementation Advisor working on the Physicians Office (DOQ-IT) and Hospital (HIT) teams. During her years at the QIO Suzanne was instrumental in leading the DOQ-IT practices into the journey of Electronic Health Records. Suzanne developed tool kits and roadmaps for the practices along with providing them with the technical assistance they needed to transition into Electronic Health records. While working for the New York State DOQ-IT team, Suzanne assisted a group of DOQ-IT practices from the Samaritan Physicians Organization to apply for a technology Grant from the Medical Society of the State of New York. The Grant asked for funds to assist 9 Physician practices with the implementation of Electronic Health Records in 12 locations. The physicians agreed to form a community collaborative to exchange information and implement quality initiatives. The Physicians Organization was awarded the Grant in November of 2007. Suzanne was asked to come out into the community and lead the initiative thus forming Healthy NY HIT Consulting, Inc.
Suzanne recently received a Degree from Suffolk Community College in Health Information Technology. She received an Outstanding Leadership award for her services to the HIT community and honors and is planning to sit for the RHIT credential test in December. She is committed to lifelong learning and plans to continue on for her Masters Degree in Public Health. Memberships include AHIMA, LIHIMA, PMI and The American Red Cross.
